Key facts (as of 29 October 2026)
- Point-of-consumption markets (Great Britain, most of the EU, Ontario, US states, much of Latin America) require a local licence to serve local players, and many write payment rules that bind PSPs directly.
- Hub licences (Malta, Gibraltar, Isle of Man, Alderney) and offshore licences (Curaçao, Kahnawake, Anjouan) let operators run a business, but do not by themselves make it lawful to serve a country that requires its own licence.
- Payment rules that name PSPs or banks: Brazil (MP 1.394, Art. 14), Colombia (Decree 0240), India (Act 32 of 2025, s.7), Spain (joint liability, Ley 13/2011 art. 48.5), the US (UIGEA, 31 CFR 132), Singapore (police blocking of payments), Denmark (deposits only through PSPs lawful in Denmark).
- Crypto: banned or blocked for player deposits in Ontario, Australia (wagering) and Peru (serious infringement). Curaçao permits it under a strict guideline. Great Britain is exploring a route (February 2026).
- Recent changes: UK Remote Gaming Duty 40% from 1 April 2026; Netherlands 37.8% from 1 January 2026; Sweden credit ban 1 May 2026; Germany up to €5 slot stakes from 1 July 2026; Gibraltar Gambling Act 2025 in operation 1 April 2026; Brazil betting ban 25 September 2026; Michigan Public Act 93 effective 21 September 2026.

Which countries put duties on PSPs directly?
Brazil, Colombia, India, Spain, Singapore, Denmark and the US (UIGEA) all name payment providers or payment systems in their rules.
Where is crypto most clearly banned for player deposits?
