Key facts (as of 29 October 2026)
- Ontario: withdrawals are verified and paid only to an account of which the player is a legal holder (AGCO Standard 5.70), "as soon as is practicable" (5.71); no transfers between player accounts (5.79); and cryptocurrency "shall not be accepted" for deposits (5.69) (AGCO, Funds Management standards).
- Great Britain: licensees may not let customers reverse a withdrawal request back into gambling ("reverse withdrawals"), a ban in force since 31 October 2021 under remote technical standard RTS 14B: "Consumers must not be given the option to cancel their withdrawal request" (UKGC consultation response, February 2021).
- Peru: a draft decree pre-published on 21 October 2026 (Ministerial Resolution 382-2026-MINCETUR) would require player balances to be paid, by bank or in cash, within three business days of the player's request; comments close 5 November 2026 (MINCETUR; Estudio Rodrigo).
- Curaçao: the CGA crypto policy guideline says the default expectation is that withdrawals go to the same wallet and in the same crypto asset as the deposit, with exceptions for whitelisted, verified wallets or conversion through a regulated VASP (CGA guideline; AGB; iGaming Republic).
- Brazil: MP 1.394 requires the banks and payment institutions holding operators' transactional accounts to refund bettors in full within seven days of receiving the operator's list, to an account in the bettor's name, preferably the source account; funds that cannot be returned go to a specific Caixa Econômica Federal account (MP 1.394, Art. 9).
Why payouts matter
Regulators write payout rules directly. The UKGC banned reverse withdrawals because the function presents a risk to engaged and vulnerable gamblers, and its guidance says operators should make withdrawals "as frictionless as possible" (UKGC). Ontario and Peru's draft set timing expectations, and Brazil's wind-down shows that payout rails can be drafted into enforcement.

| Market | Destination | Timing | Other |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ontario | Account of which the player is a legal holder | As soon as is practicable | No credit (5.74); no negative balance (5.75); balance shown in CAD (5.76) |
| Great Britain | Per operator policy and AML | No reverse withdrawals (RTS 14B); withdrawals "as frictionless as possible" (guidance) | |
| Peru (draft) | Method chosen by player; one method per transaction | Three business days from request | Draft pre-published 21 Oct 2026 |
| Curaçao (crypto) | Same wallet and asset by default | Not specified | Whitelisting; Travel Rule with VASPs |
| Brazil (wind-down) | Account in bettor's name, preferably source | Seven days after list received | Funds that cannot be returned go to a Caixa account |
NoteReturn to source means paying back to the method or account that funded the gambling account. Brazil's wind-down rule and Curaçao's crypto default both use it, and Ontario requires payment to an account the player holds. It limits the use of a gambling account to move money between methods or people.
Rails compared
General characteristics for orientation, not sourced benchmarks. Speeds and costs vary by provider, country and contract; confirm with your provider.
| Rail | Speed | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Card push payment (e.g. Visa Direct, Mastercard Move) | Minutes in many markets | Per-transaction fees | Depends on issuer and region eligibility |
| Bank transfer, domestic instant | Seconds where available | Low | Return-to-source friendly |
| Bank transfer, international | One to several days | Higher | Correspondent fees |
| E-wallet | Minutes | Varies | Wallet's own policy on gambling |
| Stablecoin | Minutes, any day | Network fee | Only where licence permits; screening required |
Funding the payout account
A payout can only be sent from funds already in the payout account. Where an acquirer settles only on business days but players can withdraw every day, weekends become the stress point. See Prefunding.
Illustrative example: weekend liquidity
Illustrative example. Figures are invented.
An operator pays out a median €250,000 between Friday evening and Monday morning, with a 95th percentile of €480,000. Its acquirer settles T+1 on business days only. It keeps €500,000 in its payout account at Friday close. A PSP partner that can settle part of Saturday's deposits in a stablecoin through a licensed provider would let it hold less, but only for markets where that is permitted.
WarningDo not pay withdrawals to third-party accounts, or swap a player's withdrawal into a different method to "speed it up", without checking licence conditions. Paying to a different person is a classic money-laundering pattern.

Q/A
Can an operator delay a withdrawal for checks?
Ontario allows withdrawals only after appropriate verification and authorisation, and then "as soon as is practicable" (AGCO 5.70 and 5.71). Other markets differ; check the licence conditions.
Must winnings go back to a card?
Practice varies by scheme, acquirer and market. Check scheme and acquirer rules and the licence conditions.
What about stablecoin withdrawals?
Only where the licence allows player crypto; Ontario's standards do not accept cryptocurrency (AGCO 5.69). Under Curaçao's guideline, screen the destination wallet and confirm ownership.
What is a reverse withdrawal?
A function that lets a customer cancel a pending withdrawal before the transfer completes, and keep gambling with the money. Banned in Great Britain since 31 October 2021 (UKGC RTS 14B).
